The Webinar shares key points from the Project Development for Sustainable Tourism seminar, which forms part of the UNWTO’s Tourism and International Development Course and USAID’s online Sustainable Tourism course. The objective of the Webinar is to introduce the participants to developing a sustainable tourism project that contributes to international development goals.
The Webinar was presented by Ms. Eileen Gutierrez, Senior Research Advisor to the George Washington University’s Institute for International Tourism Studies.
- “Promoting Sustainability through Destination Criteria: The Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria” - November 5th, 2013
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council developed a set of Destination Criteria and Indicators, in an effort to expand its promotion of sustainable tourism principles. The GSTC Criteria for Destinations describe the minimum standards that a destination must reach in order to move toward social, cultural, and environmental sustainability. In the Webinar, participants learn about the Destination Criteria and Indicators, how they were developed and the impact the criteria will have in promoting sustainability in the tourism industry.The Webinar was presented by Ms. Kelly Bricker, Chair to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
